Meeting scheduled for March 8

As a reminder, the Central Arkansas Real Estate Investors Association will be meeting next week, March 8. The usual time (7pm) and place (Crye-Leike offices on JFK in NLR) still apply.

I have invited the Commissioner of State Lands, John Thurston, to come speak to us about investing in tax liens/deeds. He and a few members of his staff will be there to present how we can take advantage, as investors, of people not paying their property taxes. If you have any questions you want to make sure he answers, please let me know and I’ll pass them on for you.

Otherwise, I will see you all next week! I’m looking forward to it.

Meeting Tonight

A lot of you consistently request my father, John Lessel, come back to discuss business entities and how to structure your real estate company to give you the most benefit and protection. Well he has agreed to come back tonight to discuss those things.

Meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed

According to our calendar, we have a meeting scheduled for November 10 — the second Thursday of the month and also, if you’re keeping track, tomorrow. Unfortunately I will be out of town and my efforts to find a replacement to lead the meeting have been unsuccessful. Mike Zanoff who usually lets us in the building is also going to be out of town as will our Vice President, Don Hines.

With all that, it has been decided to postpone the meeting one week until November 17. During that meeting, Don Hines will be leading.

I apologize that this is so last-minute, but I was trying to find a solution in order to keep the meeting scheduled for tomorrow. I know this messes up some of your schedules and again, I apologize.

Jason Schubert — Commercial Real Estate this Thursday, July 14

I am looking forward to this coming Thursday night (July 14)! I’ve personally been excited to hear Jason speak for a couple of months now and I’m ready to discuss how to get started in Commercial Real Estate.

As a reminder, our guest speaker is Jason Schubert. I’ve attached a couple of PDFs about him and his upcoming Commercial Real Estate boot camp. As always, we are not necessarily endorsing Jason or his boot camp, but if it sounds interesting to you and you like what you hear Thursday night, consider attending.

As always, we will be meeting from 7:00 to 8:30-ish (maybe a little later this month because of our guest speaker). Doors will open at 6:30 for mingling and networking. Bring your deals and your questions and lets discuss. Our meeting location is at the Crye-Leike offices in North Little Rock on JFK. The address is 3400 JFK BLVD.

This is a reminder that our next CARREIA meeting will be on July 14. I have asked Jason Schubert, a commercial real estate investor, to come and speak about commercial real estate investing. He has a conference coming up in New Orleans on July 28-30 and he’s agreed to give us a 1.5 hour version of the weekend.

Please plan on attending this event as I know that more than a few of us have interest in dipping our toes into the commercial real estate market (or jumping in head first!). I’m looking forward to what he has to teach us.

February 2011 Meeting Postponed

Due to a number of reasons, tomorrow’s Central Arkansas Real Estate Investors Association meeting will be postponed. In its place, we will have a social gathering on March 10, the second Thursday of the month. The place and time are to be determined, but suggestions are welcome. I would prefer a low to medium cost place where food is served and we can preferably have a room to ourselves.

Over the past few months, attendance has been low to our monthly meetings. Every year, because of our last Thursday of the month meeting dates, we run into a number of holidays, most notably Thanksgiving in November and Christmas in December. Because of that, I am proposing moving our monthly meetings to the 2nd Thursday of the month instead. We can discuss this change at March’s social gathering. If the idea is considered acceptable, we will keep meeting on the 2nd Thursdays. If everyone would like to keep the last Thursday schedule, we will meet again on March 31st.

This social gathering will also be a time to discuss the future of the association. This has obviously been a tumultuous time in the real estate arena and the purpose of the group may need to be different than it has been over the past 4 years. What should our focus be moving forward? Education? Networking? Deal making? These are also things we’d like to discuss at this social meeting.

All in all, this new year will bring changes to CARREIA. I am positive they will be beneficial changes, but we do need to increase the participation of the membership of this association. At the same time, membership itself needs to be increased.

August Meeting

I just got off the phone with Robyn Johnson and she confirmed that she will be there this Thursday night to speak to us about the current lending environment including some credit score information. She’s planning on being there at 6:30-ish to answer any questions before-hand and we’ll get the meeting proper started at 7:00.

We will also be having a short presentation by College Hunks Hauling Junk.

I look forward to seeing everyone there!

March Meeting on March 25

We will have our March meeting next Thursday, March 25 as planned. Following the great information we received from Scott Grummer last month regarding what is happening in the downtown LR area, I have asked Ron Copeland to speak to us regarding the future of the University District area. For those who do not know, that is the area around UALR in Little Rock. They have prepared very impressive plans for change and initiatives have already started within the area.

We will meet at the regular place and time:
Crye-Leike offices
3400 JFK Blvd, North Little Rock
7:00–8:30pm, with doors opening at 6:30 for networking and deal-making.

I, for one, am very excited to hear the details for this area of Little Rock. Join us!

Meeting this Thursday

As a reminder, we are meeting this Thursday at the Crye-Leike building on JFK in North Little Rock. As usual, we will be mingling starting at 6:30 and the meeting will start at 7:00.

For the majority of the short lifetime of this association, Scott Grummer was our president. A year ago, he stepped down to focus on his work with the Downtown Little Rock CDC. I have asked him to make a return, but this time as the speaker. He will let us know what is going on in terms of future and current development in the downtown area. Plus, he’s just a good guy that knows a lot about local real estate. I am excited to hear what he has for us.

Meeting this Thursday

We will be meeting next Thursday, October 29 this month at the Crye-Leike building in North Little Rock. Same place as usual, same time as usual: 7pm – 8:30pm (or 6:30 for some mingling).

This month, I have asked Steve Childress and Mark Hill to discuss short sales with us. What are they? How do they work? What is the process? Bring your questions to challenge their expertise. =)
